Kevin, 10, discovers a box in his Granny’s old sofa, containing a letter and legal papers that reveal harsh truths about his family. He learns that his father, Jerry, is more interested in money than him, forcing Kevin to make a life-changing decision.
Kevin’s father shows little care for him, confirmed when Kevin finds the box. “Granny’s note says, ‘Your father only returned for his inheritance.’” Kevin tests his father’s love by showing him fake legal papers promising an inheritance if Jerry leaves Kevin alone. Jerry immediately takes the papers to a lawyer, proving his true intentions.
Grandma Linda, aware of Jerry’s neglect, arranged for Kevin to live with her friend, Denise. Despite Kevin’s initial resistance, Denise tells him, “I got your back, Kevin.”
