Thirteen-year-old twins, Mike and Steve, are on the run from foster care. While scavenging for food, Steve finds a jacket with a bottle of perfume that reminds him of their missing mom. Convinced she’s alive, Steve decides to search for her, despite Mike’s skepticism.
Steve discovers an address linked to the jacket and sneaks into a mansion. Inside, he encounters a man from his nightmares, Mr. Russo, who offers Steve a job at a factory, threatening to call the police if he refuses. Desperate for clues about his mom, Steve agrees.
The factory turns out to be a prison camp in Mexico. While working, Steve finds his mom among the captives. Together, they plot an escape, tunneling under the camp’s fence. They face dangers, including a broken leg for Mom, but remain determined to find freedom.
“We can’t give up on Mom; we must fight to the end,” Steve says, embodying the hope and perseverance driving their journey.
