My wife’s boss, Gabriel, was disrupting our lives with his 6 a.m. calls. Mira, already exhausted from his constant “emergencies,” was at her breaking point.
One morning, Gabriel called at 5:45 a.m. with another urgent request. Mira, weary, agreed to cover the shift. “This has to stop,” I told her. “What if we gave him a taste of his own medicine?”
That night, we set her alarm for 3:25 a.m. Mira called Gabriel, saying, “Hi Gabriel, it’s Mira. I was wondering if you needed any extra help today?” Gabriel, groggy, replied, “It’s 3:30 in the morning!”
The next day, Mira confronted Gabriel with the call logs. He apologized and promised to stop the early calls. Mira returned home relieved, saying, “It’s like a whole new work environment.”
Our mornings finally returned to normal. As we enjoyed breakfast together, I felt proud of Mira for standing up for herself.
