Miss England Contestant Becomes First Woman in Pageant’s 94-Year History to Compete Without Make up

Melisa Raouf, a 20-year-old Miss England finalist, made history as the first contestant in 94 years to compete without makeup. She aimed to promote inner beauty and challenge societal beauty standards. In her words, “Our flaws make us who we are, and that’s what makes every individual unique.” Raouf’s decision resonated with many, inspiring confidence in young women.

Raouf is also an advocate for children’s mental health, supporting the UK organization Papyrus, dedicated to preventing teen suicide.

Miss England organizer, Angie Beasley, initiated the bare-faced phase in 2019 to encourage authenticity in contestants. She praised Raouf for her courage and the message she sends to young women.

The importance of body image is highlighted in today’s society, heavily influenced by social media. Unrealistic beauty ideals can lead to negative body image and related issues. However, social media can also promote positivity if used wisely. Unfollowing accounts that make you feel inadequate and following body-positive influencers like Melisa Raouf can be empowering.

Embracing inner beauty and appreciating one’s body are key to fostering a positive body image, regardless of societal pressures.
