In July 2021, real estate tycoon Elliot Morris demolished Joe Brooke’s house to build a mall, despite Joe’s pleas to save his only home. “Please, I beg of you. I don’t have anybody, and this house is the only treasured memory I have of my late wife,” Joe pleaded. Ignoring him, Elliot declared, “I’m bringing this thing down in two weeks.”
Two weeks later, as Joe begged again, Elliot dismissed him, saying, “Here, take this check and leave.” Joe warned, “Money has blinded you and ruined your soul…You cannot buy everything with money.”
After the demolition, Elliot found a childhood photo of himself with his mother in the ruins. Shocked, he asked Joe, “How did you get my mom’s photo?” Joe revealed he had taken in Elliot’s mother years ago when she was homeless.
Guilty, Elliot built a new house for Joe, who forgave him, saying, “You are my grandson, and I will accept only this house from you, and nothing more.” Elliot learned compassion and went on to help others, never demolishing another home without consent.
