On the day of her dream job interview, Sarah was ready to restart her career after years of maternity leave. We dropped off our daughter, Sofia, at daycare, with a mix of emotions, knowing it was a big day for all of us. “You’re going to have so much fun,” Sarah whispered to Sofia, before heading to her interview.
That afternoon, my mother-in-law, Linda, called with an “emergency,” which turned out to be a manipulative attempt to stop us from leaving Sofia in daycare. She ranted, “If you think it’s okay for your daughter to grow up in daycare, you’re out of your mind!”
Instead of confronting her, I locked her inside her own house and rushed to pick up Sofia. Afterward, I made Linda promise never to interfere again, offering her a chance to babysit instead of daycare. She quickly changed her tune.
The day ended with some hard-earned peace, knowing we’d overcome Linda’s antics and Sarah’s career could continue uninterrupted.
