Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan, married for nearly 35 years, have weathered life’s challenges together, including Fox’s battle with Parkinson’s disease. At the outset, Pollan wasn’t a fan of Fox, but their working relationship changed her perspective. When Fox received the life-altering Parkinson’s diagnosis in 1991, their bond only grew stronger.
Their marriage hit a rocky patch when Fox turned to alcohol to cope with his diagnosis. His addiction strained their relationship, but a pivotal moment changed everything. Pollan confronted him, and that beer on the floor became the last he ever had. In 2000, he embraced his diagnosis and established the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research to aid others.
Despite Parkinson’s ups and downs, the couple maintains their strength through trust and positive assumptions. People Magazine recognized Fox as one of the kindest people, a testament to his good heart instilled by his upbringing. They share four children and credit each other for their family’s success.
Living with Parkinson’s means Fox faces unpredictable days, but acceptance and gratitude help him appreciate life’s positive aspects, including family, career, and meeting new people. His wife even calls him “Mr. Mayor” because of his extensive network.
