Christine Baumgartner filed for divorce from actor Kevin Costner in May 2023 after 18 years of marriage. In July 2023, she claimed that Costner’s financial mismanagement led her to use credit cards to withdraw money from their home’s workers and make personal purchases.
Costner’s attorney suggested that Baumgartner had planned the divorce in advance, and he found it odd since they always leased cars, not bought them. Their prenuptial agreement allowed her to keep her personal car.
Baumgartner intended to take items such as artwork and kitchenware with her. Costner’s attorney accused her of taking advantage of the $1.5 million lump sum Costner had already paid her.
Baumgartner refused to sign an agreement not to take anything from their home. In June 2023, court filings revealed that she sought $248,000 per month in child support, acknowledging their extraordinary lifestyle and the importance of providing a loving home for their children.
During the court proceedings, Baumgartner’s lawyer discussed the family’s houses and interests but failed to convince the court. Costner, after winning the child support case, emphasized his desire for co-parenting and spending time with the children.
Costner’s monthly child support remained at $63,209, and he expressed that there were no real winners in their long-lasting relationship, receiving support from some fans on social media.
