A Sunflower Anniversary Surprise
For their 50th anniversary, Lee Wilson went all out, planting 1.2 million sunflowers across 80 acres of land as a gift for his wife. “I thought about it as much as I could and knew that my wife loved sunflowers,” Lee explained.
With help from his son, they secretly planted the sunflowers in May, keeping it hidden from Renee until their anniversary on August 10th. The field, now a vibrant yellow sea, became a tourist attraction near Highway 54 in Kansas, the state flower being sunflowers.
Renee was overjoyed by the surprise, describing it as “very special.” Reflecting on their relationship since high school, Lee remarked, “Renee was most probably his life’s ‘only one’.” As the sunflowers bloom for only a short while, the magnificent scene will last about a week more, marking a memorable milestone in their enduring love story.
