A family from Rotherham is facing eviction from their home on Brunswick Street, Thurnscoe due to unpaid rent. Parents Amy Winter and Joshua Thain, along with their three children, have been ordered to leave by a judge on January 31 after months of missed rent payments. Both parents are on Universal Credit, and Amy is five months pregnant.
The family has sought help from Barnsley Council, but they feel unsupported. Amy expressed their dire situation, stating, “It’s that bad we don’t go out or anything because we’re worried.” They’ve reached out to family members, but accommodation options are limited.
The property, owned by Sanctuary Housing, was under the tenancy agreement of Joshua’s late mother, Victoria Robertshaw, who passed away at 45 from Covid-19.
The family’s impending homelessness highlights the need for more support from local authorities in such situations.
