There was an instant spark of magic between Joan Blackman and Elvis when they locked eyes in 1957. Despite being in a relationship with Priscilla Beaulieu at the time, Elvis was smitten by Joan and was determined to cast her in one of his films.

Despite numerous offers to help her career from him, she refused to take any roles that were not based on her talent and merit.

Joan went on to say that the first time she and Elvis looked at each other, they could almost feel the warmth and tenderness between them.

Joan and Elvis had many similarities, including the fact that they both had black hair and shared facial features. Nonetheless, Elvis’ feelings for Joan were undaunted, and he continued to try to persuade her to appear in his films until she agreed.

“We were living in adjoining hotel rooms for what seemed like an eternity. Elvis was desperate to marry me, even though I was madly in love with another actor, Hampton Fancher III. He was aware of my feelings for Hampton, and when Elvis asked about him, I told him that I loved the other man like a woman loves the person she wants to spend her life with. I never lied to Elvis about anything and always told the truth.”

Priscilla has been an active philanthropist and businesswoman since then, working to preserve Elvis’ legacy. She also founded The Elvis Presley Charitable Foundation, which assists people in finding meaningful work and provides educational opportunities for underprivileged children.

She also founded “Graceland Presents Elvis,” a traveling show that tells the story of her late husband’s life to fans worldwide. Priscilla is a testament to Elvis’ lasting legacy and an example of finding strength, courage, and resilience in the aftermath of a significant loss.
