Coach goes viral online for this one act during kids’ basketball game

Teachers, often underappreciated, play a vital role in our community. They inspire, counsel, and mentor future generations. Jonathan Oliver, a PE teacher at WG Nunn Elementary in Valdosta, Georgia, exemplifies this commitment. His act of kindness towards a kindergartener during a basketball game captured hearts.

When Kristen Paulk, a student on Oliver’s team, needed help with her ponytail, he sprang into action. He knelt on a basketball, tying her hair back, unaware of being recorded. Kandice Anderson, another teacher, shared the video on YouTube, earning widespread praise with the title: “When your job goes beyond teaching!”

Good Morning America noticed the video and interviewed Oliver. He modestly said, “We try to love on them as much as possible. To me, it was just a ponytail.” He humorously added that for anything else, he’d say, “You better ask your mom.”

Kristen’s mom, Miyah Cleckley, appreciated Oliver’s care, acknowledging his support with their daughter’s hair. This story reflects teachers’ dedication, going the extra mile for their students. They are unsung heroes in our community, ensuring students feel at home and cherished.
