A 14-year-old boy, Mason Schermerhorn, was tragically killed in a mass shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia. Before his death, Mason sent a text to his mother from a restroom, saying, “I love you.” His mother, believing he was safe, asked for help in finding him. Mason was later confirmed as one of the four victims.
Youth minister Ronald Clark, who was close to the family, described Mason as a positive, joyful boy who “loved life” and had “no issues with anyone.”
Mason’s sister, Alanna Wallace, shared her grief, saying, “He loved everyone, no matter what.” She reflected on his hobbies, including playing the trumpet and video games, and expressed how much she would miss his protective nature.
The suspected shooter, 14-year-old Colt Gray, will be charged with murder as an adult. Schermerhorn’s family, supported by friends and their community, continues to mourn his loss.
