A 15-second TikTok video by Dbon973_, real name Devan Bonagura, has amassed nearly $170,000 for a Walmart worker named Nola to retire. The video, viewed over 24.1 million times, depicted Nola in the Walmart break room.
Bonagura, not a Walmart employee but working for a third-party company, set up a GoFundMe for Nola, which, in 24 hours, raised over $100,000. Meeting Nola on November 5, Bonagura transferred the raised amount, initially $110,000, expressing pride and support for her hard work. Nola, while accepting, noted the remaining $60,000 needed for her house. Walmart’s average hourly wage being $19, Nola may need to work several more years. Walmart allegedly faced backlash and demanded Bonagura delete the video and GoFundMe, leading to his suspension. Critics argue such videos oversimplify complex issues while collecting funds.
