When Jim and I got engaged, his mother Beth began meddling with our wedding plans. “I’ve been planning Jim’s wedding for years now!” she said. Despite Jim assuring me she’d take the hint, she continued to impose her ideas.
On our wedding day, Beth arrived in a full-length white dress, instead of the purple one she showed me. I was shocked but tried to focus on the ceremony. However, Beth wasn’t done. During the reception, she grabbed the microphone and announced her engagement.
“Jim and I wanted to take this moment to share some exciting news with everyone,” I announced at her wedding a year later. “We’re pregnant!” The crowd cheered, and Beth was furious.
Beth confronted me, “You did this on purpose!” I replied, “Just like you knew what you were doing at our wedding?”
After that, Jim set boundaries with Beth, making our lives easier. Eventually, Beth called to congratulate us on the baby, signaling a new chapter of understanding. Now, we wait for our baby and hope Beth stays in her lane.
